Did you know that northern pike can make exceptional table fare? Some believe northern pike provides a better dinner than walleye or panfish, if cooked and cleaned properly.
Make sure fillets are dry
Sprinkle salt and pepper over the fillets
Place fillets into your favorite fish breading
Pre-heat vegetable oil in your deep fryer to 350 degrees (for pan-fried fillets, preheat half-inch of vegetable oil on a medium flame until it boils)
Deep-fry breaded fillets in hot oil until they float to the surface and are golden brown
Place cooked fillets on a plate lined with paper towels
Cover fillets with paper towels and lightly press on them to remove excess oil
The best-tasting pike are in the 20- to 25-inch range, and cooked immediately (or within 48 hours). Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy!
