Lipless crankbaits for schooling bass

11/9/2016

During fall, in order to find bass you need to find baitfish. A lipless crankbait is by far the best way to replicate baitfish and cast long distances into shad busting the surface. An ideal lipless crankbait for these situations is the Jackall TN-70. If you’re fishing around grass on the shoreline and making long casts, opt for 30-pound PowerPro. In open water situations or if the fish are holding deeper, opt for fluorocarbon line for a faster fall rate. Baitfish can typically be found in shallow mud flats on the main lake or in the back of creek channels. Vary your retrieve based on water depth—if fish are shallow use a fast and steady retrieve; when fish are deeper let the lipless crankbait sink and hop it off the bottom in a “yo-yoing” action.
