Spring muskie fishing

4/27/2017

Muskies spawn in water temperatures ranging from 48 to 60 degrees. Most spawning occurs after ice out in shallow bays with soft sand and silt. Since muskies have their mind focused on spawning, the bite can be tough. To catch more muskies downsize your lure. Lures that have a slimmer profile and excellent side-to-side gliding action are the Jackall Gantarel and Gigantarel, which mimic bluegill cruising the shallows invading muskie nests. As always, be sure to use the line that is recommended by the top muskie fishermen—PowerPro. Eighty-pound test is more than enough to hold up to the rigors of muskie fishing.
