Springtime Spanish Mackerel

​Right now mackerel can be found in-shore before they move out to deep water in the summer. Look for diving birds, which reveal the bait fish that the mackerel are chasing. Chumming dead bait is a viable option if no birds are to be seen. Spanish mackerel are aggressive feeders and will eat artificial lures like bucktail jigs and Shimano Waxwings. The faster the retrieve the better be sure to implement a jerking motion in your retrieve to give your lure an erratic action.
