The spring tripletail season begins when the warmer water brings fish inshore. Fish can be found around estuaries, bays, and lagoons during the spring. As the season goes along many tripletails migrate back to deeper water. Fish will almost always be found around structures like marker buoys, bridges, piers, and docks. When approaching structures to find tripletails, stealth is key to success. Be sure to turn off your motor completely, using a push pole or trolling motor to get to the desired structure. Cast your bait into the current and allow it to drift back with the current to the structure you suspect holds tripletails. Light-lining live shrimp on a split-shot rig will do the job. Casting small bucktail jigs is also another great approach if your looking to catch tripletails on artificials.
