The art of deep cranking is a technique used to get your bait down deep and to make contact with the bottom. Making a connection on the bottom is key in getting the correct action out of your bait and fishing efficiently. Two great deep crankbaits from Jackall are the Muscle Deep 15+ and the DD Cherry. Tips to get your crankbait to dive deeper.
Use a thinner diameter fluorocarbon line, like 10-pound test. Fluorocarbon is denser than monofilament, resulting in a less buoyant line. Also, the thinner line cuts through water with less resistance.
Use a longer rod. Using a 7’6” to 7’11” rod will help you cast further, allowing your bait to cover more water and reach greater depths.
Use a reel with a slower gear ratio, like a 5:1. This slows down your retrieve, allowing your bait to get down deeper, and gives you more power when cranking against the resistance of the water.
