Hunting down redfish is part of the inshore experience, but if you look slightly offshore, you can find unpressured reds. Structure and cover combinations that make textbook bass spots also attract reds. Using a detailed contour map, find prominent points, which also naturally contain ‘inside turns’ on each side, where the point originates. Many points feature several twists and turns, like fingers, that jut out from the main point. This is why you need a detailed contour map, to find these locations as well. Where there is healthy weed growth along and on top of underwater points, there is usually a depth at which most of the weeds stop growing, known as the deep weed edge. Focus on deep
weed edges along points and inside turns, and you’ll find redfish action!
