Sight-fishing redfish can be a lot fun, and there are ways to maximize your success on the water! Falling tides occur daily on the Gulf Coast, creating optimal conditions for finding redfish in marsh areas, oyster bars and flats. When tides fall, much of the water in these areas flows out to the ocean, making the remaining areas shallower. Also, a filtering process occurs--murky water turns clear, as water is swept back to the ocean through the grass. This makes the conditions excellent for sight-fishing redfish! When sight-fishing, a 7ft+ rod, 3000 to 4000 size spinning reel, and 20- to 25-pound braid will help you in your pursuit by allowing you to cast further and hold enough line for when that redfish runs! Recommended setup for sight-fishing: ROD: G. Loomis Pro Green 7'10" medium power, fast action (PGR 942 S) REEL: Shimano NASCI 3000 or 4000 (NAS3000HGFB) LINE: PowerPro Maxcuatro 20lb test
