Spybaiting is one of the top ways to catch finicky fish throughout the fishing season, and is a more efficient finesse technique when covering a large area of water. This technique works best by making long casts and counting the bait down to the desired depth. After counting down, start with a slow, steady or stop-and-go retrieve to imitate a dying baitfish. When spybaiting your rod and line, combination is crucial. Use a light to medium-light rod and no more than 6-pound test line. The light line allows the spybait to fall nose first on the fall or pause, and rides horizontally level on the retrieve.
