THUNDERSTORM SAFETY TIPS

Storms come when least they are least expected, and knowing what to do during a storm can increase your survival rate. When you are on open water, your boat is the highest point, which is lightning’s main target. Remember while boating, safety comes first.

1. Immediately stop fishing, keep all appendages out of the water.
2. Stay away from metal objects
3. Return to the boat launch, if possible.
4. If you’re to far away from the boat dock, seek shelter under a bridge.
5. If no cover is available, look for a solid structure that is taller than your boat––a lighthouse for example. Lighting will tend to strike the taller object.
