During the spring months, large schools of yellowfin tuna invade the Gulf of Mexico. These large schools can be seen feeding on the surface and can be found over structure, including shelfs and plateaus. Finding the the right water temperatures in these areas will help you find active, feeding fish. Look for water temperatures ranging from 68 to 76 degrees. Jigging with Shimano Butterfly jigs is a proven method for catching tuna. Fast aggressive retrieves will garner more fish. For jigging, we recommend using Shimano Trevala rods, Shimano Torium reels, and 80- pound PowerPro Maxcuatro.
